350,000 Chryslers Recalled

On Behalf of | Sep 28, 2014 | Articles

Chrysler is recalling 349,442 vehicles because of a faulty ignition switch, echoing the General Motors Co. safety scandal. The problem is that the ignition switches may allow keys to switch out of “on” into “accessory” or “off”, disabling the vehicles’ engines, braking, steering and possibly air bags.

The affected cars include 2008 Dodge Charger sedans, Dodge Magnum station wagons, Chrysler 300 sedans, Jeep Commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs.

The problem is similar to the one that has been linked to 19 deaths in GM vehicles. The automaker faces federal investigations and has so far paid hundreds of millions of dollars in legal and repair costs.

Chrysler said it is aware of one accident related to the problem in its vehicles, but is not aware of any accidents or fatalities.

Chrysler’s announcement brings the year’s total recall number to well over 46 million vehicles — a record that is far above the earlier high of 30.8 million vehicles recalled in 2004.

“As a supplementary precaution, customers are advised to detach their ignition keys from key rings and other keys.” Chrysler said, following GM’s lead.

Customers whose vehicles are included in the recall will be contacted. Chrysler estimated that almost 300,000  of the vehicles were sold in the U.S.  If you are an owner of a Chrysler that has been recalled or have been contacted by Chrysler letting you know that you have been part of the recall, contact Makarem & Associates immediately at 310-312-0299 to discuss your case for free or send us an email at [email protected].
