[October 10, 2024: LOS ANGELES, CA] — A former employee of 1016 Industries Inc. (“1016 Industries”), has filed a lawsuit against the company and its owner, Peter Northrop, alleging sexual harassment, discrimination, and wrongful termination. The lawsuit, filed in Superior Court of Los Angeles, details a pattern of misconduct and retaliation that the female Plaintiff endured during employment with the company.
1016 Industries, Inc. (“1016”) is a company owned and founded by Peter Northrop that designs and sells carbon fiber accessories for luxury vehicles. The Plaintiff commenced her employment with 1016 Industries in February 2021, under the ownership of Peter Northrop. From the outset, she claims Northrop subjected her to severe and persistent sexual harassment, which included unwanted physical touching, coercive behavior during work events, and inappropriate communications. Specific incidents cited in the lawsuit include Northrop touching the Plaintiff’s intimate parts without consent, coercing her into sharing a hotel room and bed with him, and engaging in demeaning acts such as poking her intimate parts with a banana.
The suit also alleges that in a calculated move to assert authority over others, Mr. Northrop often spoke of his alleged family name, claiming a connection to the Northrop Grumman Corporation lineage. This assertion was intended to bolster his influence and intimidate others who feared retaliation from the prominent defense and aerospace company. His actions have allegedly raised concerns about the misuse of familial associations to manipulate and dominate those within 1016 Industries.
In response to the harassment, the female employee attempted to mitigate the situation by requesting separate accommodations during work events and bringing friends along for support. However, Northrop allegedly responded with threats of termination, intimidation tactics, and continued harassment, disregarding the staff person’s discomfort and well-being.
On September 28, 2022, the Plaintiff asserts that she was terminated by Northrop in retaliation for opposing his advances and asserting her rights. Despite her termination, Northrop allegedly continued to harass her through ongoing communications.
The lawsuit seeks damages for lost wages, emotional distress, and other harms suffered as a result of the harassment and wrongful termination. The Plaintiff is also pursuing legal fees and costs associated with the case.
“Our client endured a deeply troubling and hostile work environment created by Mr. Northrop’s egregious behavior,” said attorney, Alexis Hames. “Employers have a legal and moral obligation to protect their workers from sexual harassment. We intend to hold 1016 Industries and Peter Northrop accountable for their actions.”
The Plaintiff is represented by Makarem & Associates, a respected California law firm specializing in employment law and employee sexual harassment.
